Kenneth Howard Norton Sr. (August 9, 1943 – September 18, 2013) was an American heavyweight boxer and WBC world Heavyweight Champion.He was best known for his 12-round victory over Muhammad Ali, when he famously broke Ali’s jaw, on March 31, 1973, becoming only the second man to defeat a peak Ali as a professional (after Joe Frazier, who won a 15-round unanimous decision against Ali on March 8, 1971).

He was an All-State selection in football, and competed in eight different track and field events his senior year, taking 1st in seven of them. The “Ken Norton Rule”, was subsequently implemented for all Illinois track and field teams. It limited the number of track and field events in which a student athlete could participate to four. He started boxing in the early 60s while he was in the United States Marine Corp, and went on to win three All-Marine Heavyweight titles. He turned professional after completing his service in 1967. He went on to fight 50 bouts over the course of his professional career, winning 42 of them. 33 of his wins were via knockout.
